Case Study: Location Planning

Industry: FMCG

Service: Location Planning

Business Size: 25,000+ staff

Target Region: UK, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany

The Project

A globally recognised FMCG company was exploring options to relocate its IT hub to mainland Europe. The company needed clarity on whether to remain in the UK or move operations to an EU-based country.

The goal was to understand the availability of IT talent, the quality of supporting infrastructure, and the broader business environment across multiple potential locations; essentially providing a strong cost/benefit analysis with a people-centric focus.

By building an evidence-based comparison of options, the organisation aimed to make a confident decision that balanced access to talent with long-term cost efficiency and operational resilience.

Our Results

Our analysis provided a clear ranking of potential locations, giving the client the evidence needed to select the most competitive and sustainable base for their IT hub.

Our Approach

N

Market Landscape Assessment: We analysed the IT workforce across five countries, mapping talent availability, graduate pipelines from universities, and the presence of specialist degree programmes. This was combined with employment trends and cost of living data to evaluate the sustainability of each location’s talent pool.

N

Business Environment Analysis: We reviewed corporate tax structures, government incentives, transport connectivity and office infrastructure. This gave a clear picture of how each country supports global businesses establishing or relocating technology functions.

N

Competitor Benchmarking: We investigated competitor moves into these markets, identifying where rival organisations had successfully set up technology hubs and the factors that contributed to their success.
